Position Requirements

• Proven track record in designing and contributing to the implementation of large-scale distributed systems
• Experience with building at least 10-100 Terabyte data marts, serving thousands of customers
• Expertise in evaluating, selecting, and integrating best-of-breed/innovative technologies
• Strong customer orientation. Ability to balance conflicting requirements and timeframes.
• Analytical skills: query planning, capacity, performance
• Ability to design testability, operability, scalability into globally-deployed systems
• Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and management skills

Technical Skills Needed

• Experience with large-scale data processing technologies (SQL, generalized MapReduce as well as the Hadoop stack)
• Demonstrated leadership in data modeling, ETL, marting, reporting, and ETL technologies (both textbook and war stories)
• Portfolio of amazingly cool hacks and beautifully structured systems
• Understanding of recent developments in large-scale data processing technologies

Years of Experience Needed

• 15+ years of experience working with systems/technologies dealing with very large scale data processing
• 10+ years of technical leadership responsibilities (as an architect and not necessarily as a manager)

Essential Job Functions

• Design the data foundation layer built on top of a Hadoop based grid. Data marts will be built on this foundation layer to provide insights to internal and external customers
• Balance the needs for reliable, periodic reporting for the majority of users with the power users’ need for ad hoc reporting on some of the largest data sets in the world
• Work closely with Business Intelligence (BI) architects to define requirements for current and next-generation integrated warehousing technology
• Define metadata management systems and design the ETL systems on top of a Hadoop based Grid
• Document and communicate system designs and their tradeoffs to product managers, developers and other architects
• Work closely with executives to align products and systems with the organizations that specify, develop, test, and deploy our business intelligence systems
